Site discused: George Reserve. Site is
un-named by Andersen but is stated to be in the Edwin S. George
Reserve in Livingstone County in Michigan. The Reserve still exists
and is owned and operated by Michigan University. There are several
small ponds in the Reserve; it is not clear from Andersen's
description which one was sampled. There are no radiocarbon dates
for the core. Pollen assemblage includes both boreal and eastern
forest elements. Andersen concludes that the boreal elements were
likely recycled and redeposited from older sediments. Of particular
interest is the occurrence of a few grains of Ephedra
pollen, referred to E. nevadensis. This is likely the result
of long-distance transport. Occasional Ephedra grains have
been found in other records (e.g., in the Great Lakes area and in
western Canada). For information on the Reserve, see http://sitemaker.umic
